John W. Abney, Sr.

As the President of Abney & Abney Construction, Inc., John Abney has over 36 years of experience in the construction industry. John is a graduate of the University of Florida and the principal of Abney & Abney overseeing the company's commercial and residential operations. As an active member of the community, John has served in a variety of local government roles including 12 years on the board of the Okeechobee County Commission with two of those years as the Chairman.
John is also active in various civic organizations. He has been a member of the Okeechobee Chamber of Commerce since 1974, serving a term as president in 1987, spent 20 years as a United Way Board member, past President of the Okeechobee's Contractor Association and past Chairman of the Okeechobee Education Foundation. He is currently on the Indian River College Foundation board, served for 20 years on the board of Big Lake National Bank and is now serving on the Community Advisory Board of Seacoast National Bank.
John has two sons, Wes and Kyle, and lives with his wife Selina Jane in Okeechobee.
John Wes Abney, Jr.

John Wes Abney, Jr., is Vice President of Abney & Abney Construction and is a state certified building contractor with over 14 years of experience. Wes graduated from Indian River College with a degree in Building Construction Technology and has been with Abney & Abney Construction since 1992, receiving his license in 1994. His primary responsibility includes pre-construction services, estimating, residential design and permitting. Additionally, he is involved in the general operations of the company.
Wes is an active member of the Okeechobee community as a member of the Okeechobee Contractors Association, Past Chairman of the Okeechobee Economic Council, Communities in Schools — Chair 2004-2006. He also served on the Okeechobee Licensing Board for over six years.
Wes was born in Gainesville, Florida and lives in Okeechobee.
Kyle M. Abney

Kyle M. Abney is a state certified general contractor and Project Manager for Abney & Abney Construction. His primary responsibility is to oversee the coordination and scheduling of the entire construction process for both commercial and residential projects. Prior to joining the family business, Kyle worked for large commercial contractors in Orlando, Florida in a variety of roles from on-sight assistant project management to estimating and pre-construction services.
Kyle is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Architectural Design and a Masters Degree in Building Construction with a concentration in Sustainable Construction. Kyle has the premier distinction of being the first person in the United States to receive a formal degree in green building. While at the University of Florida, he was the founding President of the first student chapter of the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Since then he has served as a founding board member and treasurer of the USGBC Central Florida Chapter and currently is the acting Chair of the Treasure Coast & Palm Beach Branch of the USGBC's South Florida Chapter. Additionally, Kyle is a founding member of the Steering Committee for the Treasure Coast Builders Association's Green Building Council and is on the Florida Green Building Coalition's Board of Directors.
Kyle was born in Okeechobee and currently lives in Palm City with his wife, Harmony. |
